WHOLESALE

Wholesale Packaging 101: MOQs, Pricing Tiers, and Supplier Relationships

Understanding how wholesale packaging pricing works helps you make smarter purchasing decisions and build a supply chain that scales with your business.

If you're new to buying packaging at wholesale, the landscape can be unfamiliar. Unlike retail, wholesale packaging pricing is volume-based, relationship-driven, and customized to your specific needs. Here's a primer on how it works and how to get the most value.

How Wholesale Pricing Works

Wholesale packaging is priced on a tiered model: the more you buy, the less you pay per unit. This reflects the economics of production — setting up a production run has fixed costs, and those costs spread across more units as volume increases. A case of 12 containers costs more per unit than a pallet of 50 cases, which costs more per unit than a truckload. At Louisiana Packaging, we provide custom quotes rather than publishing a fixed price list, because your price depends on multiple variables: container type, material, quantity, closure, and current material costs.

Understanding Minimum Order Quantities (MOQs)

MOQs exist for two reasons: production economics and inventory management. For in-stock items, MOQs are low — often a single case. For custom-mold items, MOQs are significantly higher (10,000+ units) because the production setup is expensive. If an MOQ feels high for your current needs, ask about alternatives. We may have a stock item that's close to your custom requirements, or we may be able to suggest a different approach that reduces your upfront investment.

Building a Supplier Relationship

The best wholesale relationships are built on communication and consistency. Share your forecast so we can plan inventory and offer better pricing. Be consistent with orders so we can maintain stock for you. Communicate changes early — if your volume is increasing or your product line is changing, let us know so we can adjust. Ask questions — our team has decades of experience and can recommend materials, closures, and logistics approaches you might not have considered.

Contract Pricing

For established customers with predictable, recurring orders, we offer contract pricing — locked-in rates over a defined period (typically 6–12 months). This protects you from material cost fluctuations and simplifies your budgeting. Contract pricing is available once we've established a purchasing history together.

Business Model

Louisiana Packaging operates wholesale and business-to-business only. We do not sell to individual consumers and do not maintain a showroom. All orders are by appointment — call (985) 781-7866 to schedule. We accept Zelle, cash, check, and CashApp.
