Packaging Logistics: What Nationwide Distribution Really Involves

Shipping containers across the country is more complex than it looks. Here's what goes into getting your packaging from Slidell to your door.

When you order packaging from Louisiana Packaging, getting it from our Slidell, Louisiana facility to your location — wherever that is — is a carefully coordinated process. We ship to all 50 states, and the logistics behind that capability involve several moving parts.

Order Fulfillment

Once your order is confirmed, the fulfillment process depends on what you've ordered. In-stock items are pulled from our warehouse inventory, packed, and prepared for shipping — typically within 1–3 business days. Custom-mold orders follow a longer production timeline before they're ready to ship.

Shipping Methods

We offer multiple shipping methods depending on your order size and urgency. Parcel shipping (UPS, FedEx) is most cost-effective for smaller orders of a few cases. LTL (less-than-truckload) freight consolidates your shipment with other cargo for pallet quantities — the standard method for most wholesale orders. Full truckload may be more economical for large-volume orders. If you have a preferred carrier and freight account, we can ship on your account. Freight costs depend on distance, weight, dimensions, and current carrier rates.

Palletization and Packaging

Bulk orders are palletized — containers are stacked, shrink-wrapped, and secured to pallets for transit. Proper palletization protects your order from damage and makes it easy to handle with forklifts or pallet jacks at your facility. We can palletize to your specifications if you have warehouse requirements such as specific pallet sizes or stack height limits.

Damage and Claims

Despite careful packaging, freight damage can occur. If you receive a damaged shipment, document it immediately — take photos of the pallet, the damage, and note it on the delivery receipt before the driver leaves. Contact us promptly and we'll help file a freight claim and arrange for replacements. Most carriers require claims within 48–72 hours of delivery.

Storage and Lead Time Planning

One of the biggest logistics challenges for businesses is storage. Containers are bulky, and warehouse space is expensive. We recommend planning your orders to balance lead time against storage capacity. For in-stock items, you can order smaller quantities more frequently. For custom items, the longer lead time means you need to plan further ahead and may need to order in larger batches.

Local Pickup

For customers in the Louisiana, Mississippi, and Gulf Coast region, will-call pickup is available by appointment at our Slidell facility. This eliminates freight costs entirely and gives you control over timing. Nationwide distribution is about more than just shipping — it's about coordinating fulfillment, freight, packaging, and timing to ensure your containers arrive when you need them.
